The Permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 100) is available to applicants who already hold a Provisional Partner Visa (Subclass 309). This visa allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live permanently in Australia. Both heterosexual and same-sex couples are eligible to apply.
You can lodge the application whether you are inside or outside Australia at the time of applying. The Department of Home Affairs will assess your application to ensure that your relationship meets the requirements under Australian immigration law.
Holders of the Permanent Partner Visa are entitled to:
Live in Australia permanently with their partner
Work and study without restrictions
Access Medicare (Australia’s public healthcare system)
Receive certain social security payments (after waiting periods)
Apply for Australian citizenship when eligible
The application process is completed online. Applicants submit a partner visa application form, while the sponsoring partner must also lodge a sponsorship form. Both parties are required to provide evidence and supporting documents.
Applicant documents may include:
Certified copy of current passport (photo page)
Four passport-sized photographs (45mm x 35mm, plain background)
Certified copy of birth certificate showing parent details
Marriage certificate or registered relationship documents
If applicable: divorce papers, death certificate, or statutory declarations
Evidence of a genuine and continuing relationship, such as:
Joint ownership of property
Shared financial commitments
Statements from both partners about the relationship history
Statutory declarations from friends or family
Sponsor documents may include:
Certified copy of passport or birth certificate
Evidence of Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or eligible New Zealand citizenship
No. When you apply for the temporary Subclass 309 visa, you are automatically considered for the permanent Subclass 100 visa. You do not need to lodge a separate application.
Most applicants are assessed for the permanent visa two years after lodging the initial partner visa application. However, in some cases, the Subclass 100 may be granted earlier (for example, if you and your partner have been in a long-term relationship or have children together).
